Why Recycle Your Electronic Waste

ENVIRONMENT: Your electronic material will be recycled. None will be placed in a landfill or shipped overseas. Electronic waste contains many hazardous materials including heavy metals. In many states (and more to come), it is illegal to place these types of devices in a landfill.

SECURITY: Most members will also Destroy Your Disk Drives and give you a certificate of destruction. Most business computers contain confidential employee, customer, business or patient records which could be used to facilitate identity theft. You would never give away a printout of the data on the hard drive, but many actually give away the hard drive. When you dispose of the computers, make sure you get a certificate of destruction for each disk drive. Current copiers also contain hard disk drives which contain images of all the documents that have been copied using the copier.  Make sure you properly dispose of copiers too.
